The short version
This website does not use cookies. It has no advertising pixels, no social media trackers and no YouTube embeds, and our fonts and videos are served from our own site. That's why you don't see a cookie banner.
Two small things do touch your device. Neither tracks you, and the law allows both without asking first. Both are explained below.
What is stored on, or read from, your device
| What | Where | What it does | How long | Is consent needed? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Kit list (opus-estimate-kit) |
Your browser's local storage, on our kit page | Remembers the kit you've added to your estimate (item name and quantity) so it's still there when you come back | Until you remove the items or clear your browser's site data | No. It's strictly necessary for a feature you asked to use. |
| Website statistics (Cloudflare Web Analytics) | A small script loaded from Cloudflare (static.cloudflareinsights.com) |
Counts page visits and measures how fast pages load, using the page address, the referring page, the browser type and page-load timings. It sets no cookies, uses no local storage and does not identify or follow you. We only see totals. | Not stored on your device | No. It's covered by the statistics exception, as long as we tell you about it (this page) and let you turn it off (below). |
Turn off website statistics on this device
If you turn statistics off, we save one small note in your browser's local storage (opus-stats=off) so we remember your choice. That note is strictly necessary to honour your request. We also treat a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser as a request to turn statistics off.
Things this website does NOT do
- No cookies. Not for analytics, advertising or "remembering" you.
- No third-party fonts. Our fonts are stored on our own website, so your browser makes no requests to Google or anyone else for them.
- No embedded YouTube, Vimeo, Instagram or maps. Our videos are files on our own website.
- No advertising or retargeting pixels (Meta, Google Ads, TikTok and so on).
- The "Lights" switch on our homepage, which pauses the lighting animation, does not save anything. It resets each time you visit.
Security cookies from our host (only if they're switched on)
Our host, Cloudflare, protects the website from attacks. Some Cloudflare security features, such as bot protection or a "checking your browser" challenge, can set a short-lived security cookie (for example __cf_bm or cf_clearance). If one is ever set, it's there only to protect the site, which is strictly necessary and doesn't need consent. [BUILD TO CONFIRM: whether Bot Fight Mode, Turnstile or challenges are switched on for opus-av.com. If not, delete this section.]
Why there's no cookie banner
The law that governs cookies and similar technologies is the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), regulation 6, as updated by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 (in force since 5 February 2026). It says you must not store or read information on someone's device unless they consent or an exception in Schedule A1 applies:
- Strictly necessary (Schedule A1, paragraph 4): storage that is essential for a service the user has asked for. The ICO gives remembering items in a shopping basket as an example. Our kit list is exactly that.
- Statistical purposes (Schedule A1, paragraph 5): collecting statistics about how a website is used, only to improve it, shared only with a provider who helps us do that, with clear information given and a simple, free way to object. Our Cloudflare statistics meet each condition: totals only, no tracking of individuals, Cloudflare acting for us, this page as the information, and the button above as the way to object.
Because everything this site stores or reads falls under an exception, there's nothing to ask consent for, so a consent banner isn't needed. If we ever add anything that isn't covered, such as advertising pixels or embedded YouTube, we'll ask for your consent first and update this page.
Managing storage in your browser
You can clear or block local storage for any website in your browser settings, usually under "Privacy", "Site settings" or "Clear browsing data". If you clear it, your kit list will be emptied.
